Border City Juniors – Statement of Intent
1. Introduction
1.1 Border City Juniors is a sub-committee of the Border City Wheelers Cycling Club (hereinafter referred to as “the Club”) and its remit is to arrange the organisation of the junior section (extract: Constitution of the Border City Wheelers Cycling Club section 7.4, paragraph d).
1.2 This Statement of Intent is a broad set of guidelines that defines the terms of this remit. All members of Border City Juniors are accountable to the Constitution of the Club and its aims and objectives.
2. Aims and Objectives
2.1 The aims and objectives of the Club shall be to promote and further both the competitive and social aspects of cycling and the good name of the club and related matters.
2.2 The Club shall be consistent with the furthering of equal opportunities for all groups in cycling.
3. Membership
3.1 This Statement of Intent covers the activities of those members of the Club within the following categories:
(i) Junior Membership – 16 or 17 years of age at 1st January
(ii) Youth Membership – under 16 years of age at 1st January
4. Activities
4.1 The activities of Border City Juniors are supported by British Cycling in recognition as a Go-Ride club with Clubmark status and are currently:
a) Go-Ride sessions (held weekly on Friday evenings at the VOSA test station site, Kingstown, Carlisle
b) Go-Race events (two per annum)
c) ‘Super’ Club meetings, Salt Ayre, Lancaster (every second Wednesday through the summer). These sessions are aimed at riders who wish to improve their racing skills and prepare for selection to the Regional School of Racing
d) Cluster Group sessions, Manchester Velodrome (4 per annum as part of the Merseyside Cluster Group)
e) Regional School of Racing, Club coach(es) nominate riders who meet the criteria as set out by British Cycling to attend coaching sessions for specific disciplines at various venues.
4.2 In addition Border City Juniors organises weekly club runs (under 16’s to be accompanied by an adult) details of which can be found on the website www.bordercityjuniors.co.uk
5. Border City Juniors Sub-Committee
5.1 The Border City Juniors Sub-Committee consists of no less than six Club members who have no formal roles but broadly comprise a Secretary, Web Administrator, Press Contact and Coaches plus Parent-Helpers who have Full Membership of the Club.
5.2 The Sub-Committee meet on a regular basis to ensure:
(i) the activities run smoothly
(ii) the organisation of events in association with British Cycling, and
(iii) effective communication is maintained at all times.
5.3 The Secretary, plus two nominated representatives from the Border City Juniors Sub-Committee also sit on the Club Committee which meets four times per year.
6. Coaching and Parental Support
6.1 The Club has a number of British Cycling qualified Club, Level 2 and Activity Coaches who provide coaching at the Go-Ride sessions.
6.2 Border City Juniors is also grateful for the support of its volunteers and parent-helpers who supplement these coaches to ensure safety at all times.
7. Communication
7.1 All activities of Border City Juniors are communicated via the website www.bordercityjuniors.co.uk
8. Finance (extract from Club Constitution section 9, paragraph e)
8.1 Funds raised from the club’s youth section (Border City Juniors) shall be accounted for separately in the income and expenditure accounts and balance sheet. These funds will be ring-fenced from the club’s other activities and maintained for the sole benefit of the activities of the youth section.
